COMMITTEE MEMBER – JANET BLANN

committee member janet blannOWNER & MANAGER

NORTHFIELD QUAKER PRE-SCHOOL

Janet Blann is the Owner and Manager of Northfield Quaker Pre-School. The Pre-School is open term-time only and caters for children from 2-5 years old. We believe that every child should be valued for their own special gifts and the contribution each one makes to the Pre-School community; creating an environment in which staff, children and their families can flourish. Our high ratio of fully qualified staff ensures each child receives the best possible care, enabling them to move on into formal education ready and eager to learn.

We work in partnership with parents, enabling them to make the best choices for their children respecting that each family has differing needs and aspirations. The Pre-School has consistently worked in partnership with other local settings to provide the best service for our local community.

Through personal recommendations, we have worked with a large number of children with additional needs, in particular ASD, ADHD and Speech and Language and as a result have gained a great deal of knowledge and expertise is these areas.

Janet first qualified as a Nursery Nurse in 1976 and has worked in a variety of childcare settings from being a private nanny, Social Services Day-Care, Nursery and Primary Schools, Childminder, and Voluntary Pre-Schools before managing and directing Northfield Quaker Pre-School since 2003. Janet took time out of paid employment to look after her own 3 children and during this time trained as a breast-feeding counsellor, running support groups for mothers, one-to-one support, and training events for midwives and other health professionals.

Janet believes that the PVI Support Group is an essential network to enable us to continue to provide excellent childcare across the city, ensuring that we receive fair and equal treatment form the City Council. Janet joined the committee at its outset as one of the representatives for the South Sector of the city.
