Committee member gill gilbert Volunteer Director

Selly Wick Preschool

Gill Gilbert is a volunteer Director for Selly Wick Preschool, a charity run sessional preschool setting in Selly Oak, Birmingham. She has supporting the Preschool Manager with the financial aspects of running the setting since 2004. She’s also volunteered for the Birmingham, Solihull and the Black Country Preschool Learning Alliance since 2010.

In 2013, after 31 years’ service she was made redundant from Royal Bank of Scotland, Gill decided to gain an Early Years qualification to support her volunteering commitments. She gained her Level 3 in July 2014 and is currently studying a part-time Early Years Foundation Degree at Newman University. She plans to do a BA Top-Up course in 2017/18 and may even consider doing a Master’s degree after this. Whilst studying Gill is continuing to build up her experience of working with young children which includes a placement at a Nursery School, helping out at a Private Nursery chain and one on one support to a child with special education needs at her own setting.

Gill joined the PVI Support Association in October 2015 and due to previous Treasurer experience was elected as Treasurer in March 2016. At the same time as joining us she also became a PVI representative on Birmingham City Council’s Early Years Forum. Gill is keen to improve the quality and consistency of provision across the city and believes increasing PVI settings awareness and involvement in the Early Years Network meetings will support this.
